Hi I’m Shankar, b.1993 London, now based in Edinburgh.
I’m a sculptor exploring themes of perception, embodiment, and digital-analogue hybridity …along the way discovering what non-human systems can reveal about the human condition.
I came to my art practice from a background in architecture. I find that this experience results in me thinking about my work in an inherently spatial and site-specific way, and I begin most projects with a period of intuitive sketching as the primary form finding mechanism. Further along in my process I combine these intuitive sketches with structured computational design logic and digital-analogue hybrid fabrication techniques. The resulting interplay between human intuition and computational control dictates my final outcomes, whether visual, sonic, or something combining the two.
